In this post, I’m going to show you how to start a blog in college with Siteground, and all its benefits that you can’t miss out on!
Starting a blog can be confusing, but it doesn’t have to be. The initial set up can be intimidating if you’re not tech savvy but guess what? Siteground eliminates that problem!
For as little as $3.95/month you can get the best hosting service for your blog with Siteground!
First, let me share my personal story which may resonate with you at this point in time.
My Personal Experience
When I finally decided to publish my blog and all the few private posts I had at the time, I felt ecstatic! I always loved blogging, so the choice was definitely easy. However, I had no idea what I was in for when setting it up.
I thought all I had to do was purchase a domain and somehow apply it in my blog settings and I’d be live! Wrong.
I learned that I had to use a hosting service, so I began my research. It all came down to either Bluehost or Siteground. When reading the reviews, a lot of people said that Bluehost was slower and had unexpected down times and poor customer service. All the reviews I read for Siteground were positive, so I went with them – and it was the best decision I ever made.
I had no idea what I was doing. I purchased my domain from Godaddy, and now I had to link it to Siteground, and I saw all these tech terms that I had no idea about, so I quickly ran to customer service. And let me tell you,
THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AMAZING. If you’ve ever seen someone say that Siteground’s customer service is unmatched, believe them because it is.
They literally did everything for me on their end. All I had to do was describe the problem and they fixed it! They connected my domains, they help set up my WordPress account, and they even helped me when I couldn’t log into my WordPress account!
They were able to log into my account on their end and change my password for me. I’m not sure why it wasn’t working (probably because I was switching my email) but I couldn’t even reset it because WordPress said my email didn’t exist. It was a WordPress problem, but Siteground fixed it!

How Siteground can benefit you
AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE
Like I said before, they have the best customer service that I’ve ever interacted with! This is very important for a new blogger because the setting up your blog can be a little intimidating. But they literally do everything for you on their end if you ask. They’ve never let me down!
Great Hosting Services
I’ve honestly never had issues with Siteground. The most confusing part of my blogging journey was the setup process with the domain and the hosting service.
Siteground’s amazing customer support team took care of all of that for me. Since then, I’ve never had any issues with my blog being down or slow or anything. They brag a near perfect uptime but in my experience, it’s pretty much been perfect!
Free SSL Certificate
In case you’re not a technical person like me, all this basically means is that it adds the “https” in front of your domain name. This indicates that your website is secured.
If you’ve ever tried to go to a website and you see that error that asks you “are you sure you want to visit this site” then it’s because it does not have the SSL certificate.
I’m sure you don’t want that for your blog. Plus, it helps you rank for search engines like Google since it indicates that your website is safe.
Student Hosting Plan
One of the big reasons why I went with Siteground is because of its student plan.
Being a college student, I definitely don’t have money to burn, so I opted for that plan since it has the same benefits as the startup plan but about half the price.
If your student email still works this can be a good option if you’re concerned about spending money. However, it does require a bit more tweaks so if you prefer convenience over price; I’d say just bite the bullet and get the StartUp plan. As your blog grows (which is the goal), you’re going to have to get the bigger plan anyway, and the student hosting plan only covers the basic package.
If I had to do it all over again I wouldn’t use my student email because it added extra steps to the process for me. I would go with the StartUp plan instead.
How much does it cost?
You can start for as low as $3.95 per month with the StartUp (basic) package!
If you’re considering the student hosting plan, it cost $1.99/month for the StartUp package. Just remember that it does require extra steps to change the domain, as it gives you a .edu domain if you don’t get your domain name with them.
If you’re a college student and you prefer a cheaper option, get the student plan.
If ease and convenience are more important to you, get the StartUp plan.
The great thing is that if you have any questions in your set up phase, or even before you purchase, their customer support can help you. Trust me, they’re amazing!
Siteground is for you if:
You plan to take blogging seriously
One of the best things you can do for your blog or online business is to invest in it. If you plan to make money on your platform, you need to make sure it’s optimized and in the best shape to handle the amount of traffic you want. Getting self-hosted gives your blog/online business a more professional look and improves your site’s performance
You have or want to have a lot of traffic
How many times have you visited a website and it took forever to load, so you closed the tab? I do this all the time because it slows my browser down. With Siteground, you will not have this problem! I’ve never had issues with my site speed or performance.
You’re not tech savvy
Personally, figuring out how to set up my blog on WordPress.org and set up the hosting wasn’t the easiest task. I didn’t understand what certain things meant like the SSL certificate. Luckily, Siteground’s customer service support team literally walked me through everything! They also helped set up my blog (or mainly set it up themselves I should say) on their end since I was so confused. If you want a great customer service team that will help you with every step of the way, I highly recommend Siteground.

How to Start a WordPress Blog with Siteground
Step 1: Choose a plan
If you’re just starting out and you have a budget, I’d recommend the StartUp plan for $3.95/month (usually $11.95/month).
However, it is generally recommended to go with the GrowBig option, especially because of the SuperCacher feature that speeds up your website even more! Also, if you plan on having multiple websites, this would be the better option.
I plan on making the switch soon because I will be creating another website.
Step 2: Choose Your Domain
You can either register your domain with Siteground for an additional $15.95/year, or purchase it from an external service.
I opted to purchase mine with an external service because it was cheaper, but it was a headache to figure it out since I’m not tech savvy. However, their customer service team literally did it all for me on the back end! (can you tell that I love them??)
Step 3: Add your personal & purchase information
After you’ve added your personal information (name, address, basic stuff), add in your payment information.
I’d recommend choosing the 12 months option because you end up saving more than if you do the trial.
If you’re unsure, you can always use the trial for $3.95/month, but it includes a $15 set up fee.
Why do I think you should do the 12 months? Because you’re going to love Siteground!
You can also purchase the extra services if you want, but I never do. It’s completely optional.
Step 4: Install WordPress
After you’ve completed your purchase, click the “My Accounts” tab and “Go to cPanel.”
Then scroll down to the Autoinstallers section and click WordPress.
- Leave the Choose Protocol section as is.
- Select your domain from the drop-down list
- In Directory: leave this section blank.
Change the Site Name and Site Description to your blog’s info and then set up the login information for your admin account.
Use your admin info to login to your WordPress dashboard to begin editing your website!

I hope this encourages you to start your own blog with Siteground! For as low as $3.95/month you can secure the best hosting service for your blog or online business.
